Staples Maintains Dividend After Strong First Quarter Results

Office supplies retailer Staples (SPLS: 14.71 -1.21%) announced today that their Board of Directors has approved a quarterly dividend payment of $.0825 per share.

 

Staples current dividend yield now stands at 1.6%.

 

The dividend will be payable on July 16, 2009 to shareholders of record as of June 26, 2009.

 

The market reacted positively to news of the dividend announcement, sending Staples shares up 2.6% to $20.64. Since the beginning of 2009, SPLS shares have gained 17%.

 

Last month, Staples announced better than expected first quarter 2009 results. The company reported EPS of $.22 which was $.01 better than Wall Street was expecting on a 19% increase in sales.
